Justice System Barriers to Trade

ADR Center – ITA’s work helps to strengthen and improve international trade relationships

International trade plays a major role in the promotion of economic development and the alleviation of poverty. There is growing recognition that increased integration into the world economy is a pre-requisite for accelerated, sustainable, economic growth and poverty reduction in developing countries. But integration into the global economy poses daunting challenges. Increased dealings can easily result in more frequent and more serious culture-driven conflicts and disputes. Moreover, the complexity of the multilateral trading system may confront developing countries with an expanding array of policies and legal challenges to which they need to respond.

ADR diffusion can improve the business environment for private sector development, by establishing new mechanisms aimed at facilitating disadvantaged groups’ access to justice, and by reducing the time and cost involved in resolution of commercial disputes. It is becoming better known that foreign companies are more willing to invest in a country when its conflict resolution system is not arduous and expensive. ADR Center, among its other roles, provides commercial mediation to help extricate private firms, especially Small and Medium Enterprises, from expensive and lengthy, business-reducing litigation. ADR Center – ITA services help on a more systemic level to overcome impediments to conducting business in many countries.
